Saturday morning….

Don’t have too much to add today, its going to be a rainy weekend so I will probably be indoors the majority of the time. Got my birth certificate in the mail today, will probably try to get my passport app done sometime next week during my lunch.

Have a good one!

TGIF!

Friday, sweet Friday!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and look forward to every day – but I need some rest this weekend! I also need some out of the box ideas on how to raise money for the trip, so if you have any please leave them in the comments section. I am looking to get some other like minded teacher’s involved as well – not only do we get a discount for groups but it would be nice to share the experience with someone.

I have sent of for my birth certificate and as soon as it gets in I will be applying for my passport – then the real fun will begin!

Hello world!

Hello world, and welcome to my little corner of the internet! You may wonder what this site is all about, why I made it, and what I am trying to do here. Well it’s very simple – I’m trying to get to Ghana!

You see, I am a middle school science teacher who loves my job, loves to help people, and of course loves to travel! So next summer I will be combining all of my passions  during a month long stay in the remote villages of Ghana, teaching native children how to read and write. However, even though this is a volunteer mission – it is NOT free! I will be working with a great group – “Global Vision International”, who do their best to keep the costs of food and lodging down but adding in the cost of airfare, insurance etc…it’s gonna cost me!

Well the great folks over at GVI have plenty of fundraising ideas for their volunteers, and given the amount of time I spend on the internet I thought that building a website would be a great way to kick off my fundraising efforts (and maybe inspire some of you to donate to the cause!). I know that times are tough for all of us, and no one is exactly willing to hand out money to someone that they do not know – but I still want you to stick around and follow me on my path to a place that I have always dreamed of visiting! To be continued……
